Water. Weather. Willingness.
I began dreaming up this trip as part of the 2021 WeGotNext Ambassadorship. Planning this trip gave me the unique opportunity to create an experience of Iceland using my two favorite means of engaging with the world: art and cycling.
Buck and Smokey
Nearly two decades before he became a scientist, rock climber, or telemark skier, Gabe Patterson, Ph.D. was a cowboy/buckaroo.
Almost There
One of the scariest points on the trip happened three nights before the end. We knew there was a storm coming in and our plan was to hunker down in the tent and wait it out.
Early Season Paddling
In all my hope, this is what I wish would change the most: that women, that people of color are seen and expected, presumed to be the ones taking their partners down the river, not the other way around.
Everett Ó Cillín: An Example of Positive Masculinity.
WeGotNext Ambassador, Everett Ó Cillín takes us on a journey of family, patriarchy, white supremacy and what it means to be a positive example of masculinity.
Walking Through Water
WeGotNext Ambassador, Sebastian Cancino with an intimate piece on rivers of the Southwest, the mental health benefits of “blue spaces” and how policy and poor decision making is disproportionately impacting the water systems for BIPOC . . . AND a beautiful poem!
and most of all, the problematic narrative that in the U.S. to be “Black” is to be defined and determined by others . . .
WeGotNext Ambassador, Gabe Patterson shares intimate thoughts on Black self-identity through the, often times, over inundation of information and some words of elevation from his Auntie Jane.
